I just wanted to post a short answer to a brother who was wondering how I came up with the idea of rubies, when all of the references regarding the tablets refer to them simply as stones.
First I’ll clarify that the position I hold is that they were possibly ruby red in color, not actual rubies, but a gemstone called pyrope.
The Hebrew word “eben” and translated as stone refers to any kind of stone, large, small, gold, silver, precious stones (gems), granite, absolutely any kind of stone. So it is just a matter of determining which kind it was.
The second thing to remember is that I am not saying that they are pyrope garnet stones, but that it is an interesting possibility due to various Scriptures and to the igneous and metamorphic rock formations that surround Mt Sinai in Arabia (Al Jabal Lawz); and I state my position to this effect in the study.
However, they could also have been red granite. The only thing I am certain about is that they were reddish in color, and that the instruction on them was on how to construct the 10 components of the tabernacle.
Also, the focus of the study is about what was on them in contrast to what tradition says was on them. The color was just an interesting side bar that I came across while developing the study.
But overall, I believe anyone who studies this material out which I have presented to the community will find the study quite compelling and interesting even if they ultimately decide they disagree with my position.
Joyful search to you all, fellow Bereans!!
